Located approximately two fields to the east of Narayan Sarovar is this sacred place known as Kalidatta’s Ota. The divine lotus footprints of Shri Hari have been installed at this sacred site.
It was here that Bal Ghanshyam destroyed Kalidatta, the preceptor of the demons. The story associated with this sacred place is as follows:
The celebration of Shri Bal Ghanshyam’s Chaul Sanskar (first tonsure ceremony) was being held. At that time, Dharmadev and Bhaktimata were busy welcoming and attending to the guests. Therefore, they entrusted Bal Ghanshyam to His childhood friends, Madhav-Prayag and Veniram.
The children took Bal Ghanshyam to a garden outside the village. There, they became engrossed in eating ripe mangoes from the mango trees.
Seeing this as an opportunity, Kalidatta, the preceptor of the demons, attempted to kill Bal Ghanshyam using his demonic powers. He created a terrible storm, accompanied by heavy rain and powerful, howling winds, causing great turmoil.
All the children, frightened by the storm and drenched by the rain, began running about in fear. However, Shri Ghanshyam Maharaj, the Supreme Purushottam, remained peacefully seated beneath a mango tree.
Suddenly, the very tree beneath which Shri Hari was seated fell to the ground and came to rest over Him like a protective canopy.
In the darkness and chaos of the storm, Kalidatta set out to find Shri Hari. However, by the divine will of Shri Hari, the trees in the garden began breaking and falling one after another upon Kalidatta. His limbs were crushed, and the demon was left covered in blood. Thus, as a consequence of his own sinful deeds, Kalidatta met his destruction.
In this manner, Shri Hari, in His child form as Bal Ghanshyam, destroyed Kalidatta at this sacred place.
Therefore, Kalidatta’s Ota holds great spiritual significance and is a sacred place associated with the divine childhood pastimes of Shri Hari.
