Once, on the sacred day of Makar Sankranti, Mother Earth worshipped Shri Hari and humbly prayed:
“O Compassionate Lord, O Ocean of Mercy, O Supreme Lord! You are the destroyer of pride. The burden of sin upon me continues to increase. Therefore, please destroy the sinners, firmly establish righteousness, and relieve me of this burden.”
At that very moment, Varun Dev, the deity of water, also appeared and prayed to Shri Hari:
“In Chhapiya’s Jirabhari Lake, some people with demonic tendencies are killing crocodiles, fish, and other aquatic creatures. After killing these creatures, they pile up their dead bodies along the bank of the lake.”
Hearing this prayer, Shri Hari immediately appeared on the bank of the lake and cast His divine gaze upon the dead creatures that had been piled up along its shore.
As soon as the divine gaze of the Supreme Lord fell upon them, all the creatures came back to life and returned to the waters of the lake.
As a result, the people who had been killing these living creatures began accusing one another of throwing the fish and other creatures back into the lake. They started fighting among themselves.
Their quarrel became so intense that they ultimately fought among themselves and died, bringing about their own destruction.
Thus, Shri Hari destroyed the people of demonic tendencies through His divine power.
Jirabhari Lake is located approximately two miles to the south of Chhapiya village.
